ericschmidt_fancyhandsLike the Nexus One? Well, don’t get your hopes up for a Nexus Two, because Google’s (GOOG) not planning to make one. You know why? It doesn’t need to, because the Nexus One — despite the failure of the direct-to-consumer sales model with which it was launched — was such an epic success. And that’s the real reason Sprint (S) and Verizon (VZ)) both dumped it before even launching it!

“The idea a year and a half ago was to do the Nexus One to try to move the phone platform hardware business forward. It clearly did,” Google CEO Eric Schmidt told The Telegraph. “It was so successful, we didn’t have to do a second one. We would view that as positive but people criticised us heavily for that. I called up the board and said: ‘Ok, it worked. Congratulations – we’re stopping’. We like that flexibility, we think that flexibility is characteristic of nimbleness at our scale.”
